Deaths Funerals BENTLEY, Sidney (Sid) 1927 2012 Sidney James Bentley was born in Stoughton, Sask.
and passed away October 25, 2012 after a short battle with cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 66 years, Shelia, his children Rick (Jan) of Comox, Kerry (Anne) of Tsawwassen and Tracey (Rob) of Edmonton along with 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as a frequent volunteer (picking fruit for the Surrey Food Bank, shovelling snow from neighbourhood driveways and helping seniors put up their Christmas lights), a wonderful storyteller and a regular at the rec centre near his White Rock home. His stories came from an interesting work life, beginning as a teen working on paddlewheel boats in the Yukon before entering the world of sales (of just about anything that can be sold), before finding his calling as an educator. He will be remembered by his colleagues and students as a teacher of 25 years at William Beagle Secondary in Surrey, retiring in 1992. He left his mark in BC education circles with the development and teaching of his innovative course on world religions, and the publishing of his book "Religions of Our Neighbours". It is through these latter efforts that he met and sincerely touched a very wide circle of people, and will be missed by them. Sid's family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff of Peace Arch Hospital for the care and comfort they extended to him. Jim leaves his loving wife, Anne, daughter Debbie (and her husband Ron Crocker), son Andrew (and his wife Mary Anne Waterhouse) and his beloved grandchildren, Liam, Rachael, Adam, Nicholas and Benjamin. Jim was so many things, and to so many people. He was a son and a brother. he became a husband, father, friend, mentor. and finally a grandfather, and awesome doer of the cryptic crossword. His true loves were his family, his golden retrievers and Hornby Island. Jim was a gentle soul, ethical and kind and will be greatly missed. We loved him with all our hearts. Born in Nanaimo, Dad was so proud of having reached his 100th birthday. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years Phyllis; daughter, Beverley Mae and grandson, Matthew Dixon. Cecil is survived by sister, Edna Banks; sons, George (Joan) and Arthur (Beverly); many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cecil was employed at the CIL plant on James Island for 37 years. Donations may be made to First Open Heart Society, if desired. GRAY, Edna Born July 20th, 1916 in Edmonton, Alberta. Died peacefully in her sleep October 23rd, 2012 at the beautiful age of 96. Although born in Edmonton, Edna moved to Oak Bay with her family at pandora cheap charms 16 months and thus began her long career as an Oak Bay civilian. In the next 94 years, Edna moved four times, always within the same 5 block radius of her beloved Oak Bay and always within walking distance of the ocean. She built her life around her small but lively family: husband of 62 years, Hugh (predeceased), son Barry, daughter in law Diane and granddaughter, Erin. Edna always believed in "keeping busy", holding many unique and varied jobs: working in the laundry at the Crystal Gardens in the 1930's, on board the CPR ships that ran the coastal route to Prince Rupert in the 1940's, as an owner of a dance cabaret with her husband in the 1960's. Expert knitter, Agatha Christie enthusiast, tenacious gardener and world traveller, Edna certainly had a busy and fulfilled life, all the while keeping time generously reserved for countless friends and family and a "nice cup of tea". She will be remembered for her marvelous humour, her dancing and that mischievous sparkle in her eye. The family wishes to extend a deeply felt thank you to all the staff of Oak Bay Lodge for their untiring commitment, support, compassion and professionalism throughout Edna's last years. No service by request. Charles was born in Glasgow, Scotland and as a young man came to Montreal. After a motorcycle trip across Canada he settled in Victoria. Charles was a shipwright in the shipyards. He enjoyed many a good game of golf. Charles is survived by his wife Margaret, their children Ian, Margaret, Kathleen, and James, and their spouses. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will be no service as to Charles' request. TRONES, Olaf Martin January 6, 1927 October 29, 2012 Ole passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital on October 29, 2012, at the age of 85. Ole was born in Haugesund Norway and the younger brother of Anker Trones. After WWII they both immigrated to Canada, where they enjoyed an enriched life of family, friends and loved ones. Ole was predeceased by his parents Ingeborg Andreas, his brother Anker (sister in law Marie Trones) and his beloved spouse, Dorothy May Peterson. Survived by Eva Trones (Ron), Thor Trones (Heather), Inger Hobday (Cecil) and extended family, Dianne Liberto (Rick), Fran Daviss (Paul), Gloria Barr (Lorne).
